            the game of go

            I-go

            weichi

            go

            [China] weichi

What are the basic rules of weiqi?

You can also read up on weiqi books and go through game

            records of professional players.

You can also read up on weiqi books and go through game

            records of professional players.

I did nothing but play and read about Go so my grades were

            going down the drain.

He was playing Go, an ancient Asian game.

To play weiqi, you can go to the Singapore Weiqi Association

            to look for players.

Japan is a country where people like weichi, and the level of

            weichi is very high.

For a long time Japan was the best in Weiqi game, and China

            lagged behind.

How is this year's Sino-Japan Chess Challenge Tournament

            going on?

If chess is about the decisive battle, wei qi is about the

            protracted campaign.

There is one game, however, where humans still reign

            supreme: Go.

Chess programming, of cour, is also a springboard into the

            exciting field of Goprogramming.

The result is a new generation of fast programs that play

particularly well on smallversions of the Go board.

            Go is a strategic contest.

Chess programming provides a foundation for developing more advanced formsof AI that are to be found in Go programs.

Thus, for large games like Chess and Go, computer programs

are forced toestimate who is winning or losing by focusing on

just the top portion of the entiretree.

The same is true for Go.

The cau could also be Germany’s pluralistic gaming

tradition: most countriesplay games, but German gaming has

never been dominated by a single game –unlike Japan (Go) or

            Russia (chess).

And if there were a little dishonest, you would be found out

at once. That is, youare unconsciously in a moral training, when

            you play go.

            Playing go demands our wisdom.

Programmers working on Go e it as more accurate than

chess in reflecting theways the human mind works.

In Go, however, beginning to program and making progress

            are both very difficult.

Chine culture is like the game of go, the rules of which are

clear, simple and easy to follow, but until you begin to play it, you

do not e the mystery and complexity involved in it.

There is a scroll hanging in Japan’s go institute, which is

wrote, ” Play go has fivebenefits: friends, harmony, lesson, wit

            and longevity.

Chine culture is like the go game who rules are clear and

simple and easy to follow, but until you begin to play it, you do

not e the mystery and complexity involved in it.

By midgame, most Go programs can evaluate only a couple

of dozen positionach cond, said Anders Kierulf, who wrote a

            program called SmartGo.

A:Do you know how to play go?

While many students are hot on playing computer games or

exercising outside, Wang Chen, 20, prefers sitting quietly in an

empty classroom with his peers. The only sound is when a playing

piece is moved on the wooden board. They are playing weiqi,

            called “Go” in English.

Compared with the busy sports ground, it ems a bit dull,

but Wang and his peers enjoy an inten brain workout.

Wang, a junior majoring in economic news at Shanghai

University of Finance and Economics, is an amateur venth-degree master player – the highest degree amateur players can

            attain.

This July, he won the International University WEICHI

Tournament 2013 in Shanghai, which saw competitors from 54

universities around the world, including Harvard University and

            Massachutts Institute of Technology.

“I was familiar with my opponent and we were equally

matched, but I was still surprid about the result. I had hopes to

win first place, but when it came true, I couldn’t believe it,” says

            Wang.

            Giving up

Wang began studying weiqi when he was 7 years old. “I was

a quiet boy and my parents thought weiqi would help develop

my logical thinking ability,” he says.

He began to attend the Chine Rank Promotion from the

age of 10. Thousands of children take part in it every year, but

only the top 20 are accepted to become professional players. It

was a great source of pressure for Wang.

“I failed for nine years, and then I gave up. I entered

university and became an amateur player,” says Wang.

            Another path

The tempo of playing weiqi on campus was slow, which gave

Wang more time to explore his skills.

Wang now es playing weiqi as a hobby. He is the captain

of the weiqi team on campus, which has five members. He

organizes them to rearch the latest formations once a week.

“Different trends and new styles emerge all the time and we

discuss how to deal with them,” says Wang. “I really enjoy this

            pressure-free way of playing weiqi .”

            Independence

What this hobby brings Wang is not only a n of

            achievement, but also independence.

He has won 10 national and international championships,

which have brought the young student a handsome sum of

money. When he won the national amateur competition in 2011,

he received 100,000 yuan in prize money.

With awards from contests, Wang covers his expens and

            tuition fees all by himlf.

            Lonely hobby

Wang is busier than most of his peers. A look at his calendar

shows that he had attend competitions in Guizhou and Taiwan at

the end of August, after attending an international competition

only this July. But Wang admits he has little in common with his

            classmates.

“I feel a bit lonely sometimes,” he says. “Whenever I lo,

there’s nobody with whom I can share the pain.”

Wang says his next project is to promote weiqi among his

            peers on campus.

“Many young people in China don’t understand this kind

of sport and I want to promote it,” says Wang.
