Meili Snow Mountain, 10 KM north from Deqing county, Diqing tibetan autonomous

prefecture,situated between the NJ and LC rivers. Meili Snow Mountain is also called "Prince Snow

Mountain,"it was worshiped as the “holy mountain”by local is sometimes called”the mountain

of medicine king” becau “Meili” in tibetan means”the king of medicine”.

Strictly speaking, Meili Snow Mountain is not a single mountain, but a mountain group.a cluster of

snow-capped ing out for tens of them, there are 20 peaks are at an

altitude greater than 4000m and 6 peaks above 6000m.

Among the mountain group,the most magnificent is Kagebo peak. The Kagebo and the other peaks

surrounding it are jointly named as “Thirteen Prince Peaks”, Actrually,13 is not an accurate total for

tho peaks. But it has auspicious implications in tn Tibetan language.

Kagebo ,6740 above a level, is the highest peak in yunnan,it is not only the heart of “three river

region” ,but also the core of the Meili scenic region. Located to the south of K MCM looks like a beautiful

women with a beautiful figure and graceful posture. Some believe that MCM is the wife of K, and others

consider her to be the daughter of YL snow mountain in LJ.

As one of eight Scared Mountains, K is regarded as the god of the snow mountain and the guardian

god of Jiajuba, branch of Ningma ct. To local Tibetans, K is the residence of their guardian god and

they believe that once the mountain is scared by man, the God will leave, and without the God’s blessing,

disasters will happen. according to local people.

It is also said in the tales that the Kawagebo originally is a monster with 9 heads and 18 arms. But

under the influence of the buddhism,he converted himlf to buddhism and became the patron god of

Gesar.

The “13 prince peaks” have long been enshrined as god of Tibetan buddhism, they are the sacred

place where the Tibetan Buddhists go to for a pilgrimage. Even Stones are not regular stones inside the

holy mountains,one piece of rock is even said to embody the wisdom of the world. Each year toward the

beginning of the winter, thousands of pilgrims will trek or even crawl all the way from Tibet, Sichuan,

Qinghai, and Gansu to pay religious homage to the god mountain. In so ding ,they gain lots of

merit,which can help s to e them through to desirabe fifteenth of March in lunar Calendar,

Tibetan people from Deqin county and the near will burn branches of cypress and Dusongzi, in the hope

of attracting Kawagebo god on his patrol with smoke. It is said he will leave the marks of his hor’s hoof

in the ash, which was ud by Tibetan people to predict next year’s good or ill luck according to the fire.

Bacially, it is not possible to appreciate the clear shape and colors becau It has a typical

perpendicular climate, with its changeable feature and will snow or rain in a while and sunny at the next

moment, it is constantly shrouded by clouds and mist,and has been remaining mysterious and elusive to

most visitors for centuries

Another spectacle on meili snow mountain is alpine view, namely the glaciers and glacial

moraine, Siqia Glacier extends from an elevation of 6000km disappear into the forest situate

at 2660 meters. The Mingyong Glacier can be considered as the most gorgeous glacier in the

whole Kagebo,ranging from 2700 meters to 5500 meters, 8-km-long,is classified as a rare

modern monsoon maritime glacier.

Clo to the glacier,we can find the Taizi temple,and

Lotus has it the founder of the nyingma ct stayed the lotus tmple,therefore,

tibetan visitor come to the temple each year. Besides the snow and glacier, waterfall is also a spectacle on the mountain,Yubeng

waterfall is recongnized as the Scared waterfall ,and it os believed that it has the power to

foretell a pilgrim’s ng to the locals,if a pious but unfortunate person goes near

the waterfall to pray,the waterfall will stop flowing,or the flow will turn into when a

fortunate pilgrim goes near it,he or she will get drenched all over.

What is special about the meili mountain is that no one has ever reached the top of the

mountain, It is still a 'virgin peak' . becau of Its cliffs and treachrous climate, meili snow

mountain is a big challenge for all mountain explorers from home and

1902,mountaineers from China,Japan,Great British and the United states have all failed to

reach the summit ,in 1991,17 mountaineers from China and Japan lost their lives trying to

reach the peak, bad things have wings,so this tragedy have spead the fame of ML mountain

worldwide.

In tibetan buddihism, when you ride a hor and come to such religious structures as

monasteries , pagodas, you should dismount and make a detour in a clockwi direction,but the

people hold bon religious beliefs detour from counter-clockwi direction.

Tibetan prayer wheel (or mani wheel by locals) is divice for spreading spiritual blessings and

well prayer wheel is a wheel on a spindle,on the wheel are written or carved prayers,

the most common text ud on wheels is the mantra Om mani padme hum,according to the tibetan

buddhists,saying the mantra out loud or silently to yourlf, will invoke the powerful benevolent

attention from the god.
