rent

一、hire 及物動詞。意思是“租用、雇傭”。多指臨時性的租用車、馬、會場等，也可指雇傭人。指租入。例如：

They hired camels and rode into the interior.湯姆租了駱駝穿越內陸。

During the holidays we hired a boat and went fishing.假日里我們租了一條小船去垂釣。

We hired a driver to take us on a tour of the city.我們雇了一個司機載著我們去環游這個城市。

They hired out bicycles by the hour. 他們按鐘點出租自行車。

二、rent 及物動詞。意思是“租（房子）、出租（房屋或土地）、租用、出租（車輛等）”。多指長期租用。而且可指租用也可以指出租即租入或租出。例如：

We rented a small hou near our school for a year.我們在學校旁租了一間小房子，租期一年。 She was not well off , he knew , and had a room to rent. 他知道，她處境不好，她有一間房要出租。

Mr. Hill rents this land to us ￡50 a year.希爾先生把這塊地租給我們，租金是每年五十英鎊。

一、hill 名詞。意思是“小山、丘陵”。例如：

The park is on the hill overlooking the town.公園在小山上，可以眺望城里。

The truck went up the hill in first gear.卡車開著一檔上了小山。

二、mount 名詞。意思是“山、山峰”。常用于詩歌中或山名之前。現代英語中僅用于地名中，并常簡寫為Mt. 例如：

Mt. Everest 珠穆朗瑪峰

St Michael's Mount 圣邁克爾山

Mount Tai 泰山

三、mountain 名詞。意思是“高山、山岳”。是普通用語，可單獨使用，也可置于山名詞后。例如：

一、high 形容詞。意思是“高”。強調的是高出地面之上的高度，是普通用詞。可以是具體的高度，也可以是抽象意義的“高”，其反義詞是low。表示物體的高度、向上方伸展的空間、測量的高度等。例如：

The water-tower is thirty-two meters high. 水塔高達三十二米。

The building is 18 stories high. 這樓有十八層高。

He is a man of high character. 他是一個品格高尚的人。

二、tall 形容詞。意思是“高的”。強調的是由頂到底的長度，多指細長形或高度遠過于闊度的人、樹、建筑物等。其反義詞是short。例如：

Tom is a tall man. 湯姆是一個高個子。

Do you e the tall tree over there? 你看見那邊那棵高樹嗎？

John is tall enough to touch the electric light. 約翰的高度夠得著電燈了。

The ship is too tall to go under the bridge.船太高了以至于橋下過不去。 一、hear 動詞。意思是“聽見、聽到、聽說”。跟名詞或代詞、帶不定式的復合結構（不定式小品詞to省略）、現在分詞的復合結構、從句。強調的是“聽”的結果。是表示感覺的動詞，很少用于現在進行時。例如：

I am sure I never heard a word against it.我確信我沒有聽到有反對它的話。

As a friend of yours , I want to tell you what I hear.作為你的朋友，我要告訴你我所聽到的東西。

I heard her leave the hou. 我聽到她離開了房子。

I hear you want a cretary. 我聽說你需要一個秘書。

二、listen 不及物動詞。意思是“聽”。常和to連用，跟名詞或代詞、帶不定式的復合結構（不定式小品詞to省略）、現在分詞的復合結構。強調的是“聽”的動作過程。例如：

We listened but heard nothing. 我們聽了，但是什么也沒有聽到。

Listen to me and read after me. 注意聽，跟我讀。

He listened to us talk (talking). 他聽我們談話。
