College of Arts and Sciences

Harpur College is at the cultural and historical heart of

Binghamton University; starting out as a small liberal arts college

in 1946 ("Triple Cities College"), it became part one of the SUNY

university centers in 1965 and was renamed "the State University

of New York at Binghamton."

From breadth through depth to perspective has been the

guiding philosophy of Harpur College since its inception. A high

quality liberal arts education is a critical foundation for all

professional contexts and prepares our students for the wide

variety of careers and professional and personal experiences they

will have over the cour of their lives. The broad range of

rearch, creative, and scholarly activities of our excellent faculty

e of Community and Public Affairs

Binghamton University’s College of Community and Public

Affairs (CCPA) offers undergraduate, master’s and doctoral

degree programs for students interested in careers related to

social justice, social work, education, public administration,

government and human development. Our curriculum is

designed to help students connect classroom materials to real-world experiences in order to make a true impact. All of our

bachelors and masters students are required to complete at least

one internship while studying here, which accounts for more than

50,000 hours of rvice annually. By mirroring what is taught in

the classroom to what students experience working in the field,

our programs ensure students gain the job and leadership skills

necessary for successful careers in the public, private and

nonprofit ctors.

Students’ commitment to rvice helps the college achieve

a unified mission of positively impacting individuals, families,

groups, communities and organizations from interdisciplinary

and global perspectives.

School of Nursing

The Decker School of Nursing at Binghamton University

provides outstanding preparation in nursing education,

scholarship and practice. Ranked the eighth best nursing school

in New York state, the school has earned an enviable reputation

among nursing programs worldwide and is recognized for its

commitment to educational excellence and as a growing leader

in nursing rearch, as demonstrated by the accomplishments of

our Kresge Center for Nursing Rearch.

The Decker School offers bachelor's, master's, post-master's

certificate, doctorate in nursing practice (DNP) and doctoral (PhD)

in nursing programs. The success rate of our graduates is

outstanding, with many assuming leadership roles in practice,

education and administration throughout the nation.

Our undergraduate programs provide a solid foundation

from which baccalaureate-prepared candidates are poid to

take and pass the National Council Licensure Examination

(NCLEX-RN).

The master's and doctoral programs reflect a commitment to

improving the health of rural communities through education of

nurs to provide the highest quality care for rural individuals,

families and communities.

Science

With an innovative curriculum and real-world approach, the

Thomas J. Watson School of Engineering and Applied Science

prepares engineering and computer science students to embrace

new challenges and create the are in the high-tech

heart of upstate New York state with industry partnerships, class

projects and internship opportunities that provide a wealth of

hands-on experience for graduate and undergraduate students

alike.

Our faculty bring industry and rearch experti to the

classroom and laboratory. They mentor students in the former

and work with them on scientific breakthroughs in the latter.

Students come to the Watson School from all over the world

and reprent a wide range of backgrounds and interests. They

graduate with broad-bad skills and the entrepreneurial spirit to

succeed in fields ranging from mechanical engineering to

hospital operations to the law.

Binghamton University’s new School of Pharmacy and

Pharmaceutical Sciences (SOPPS) is a rearch-intensive

professional school offering the Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD)

degree. In the future, we will also offer a doctoral program

leading to a PhD in pharmaceutical sciences.

The pharmacy school will educate students who understand

the value of evidence-bad, patient-centered pharmaceutical

care and innovative rearch. Our graduates will rve their

communities in socially responsible ways to improve health and

well-being.

Our faculty and departments

More than 30 outstanding faculty and staff are already on

board; we intend to grow that number to approximately 50 within

two years.

The talented professionals will work within our three

departments: Health Outcomes and Administrative Sciences,

Pharmaceutical Sciences and Pharmacy Practice.

Our rearch

Faculty are being hired to carry out transdisciplinary, cutting-edge rearch in the following areas:

Pharmaceutical sciences: drug discovery, drug and device

development, pharmaceutics, pharmacology (including

neuropharmacology) and pharmacogenomics

Health outcomes: epidemiology, the economics of

healthcare and health behavior

Clinical sciences: therapeutic benefits and clinical asssment

of drugs and devices

Our students

Our inaugural class joined us on the main Vestal campus in

August 2017. In the future, the school will reside in a new building

in nearby Johnson City. When fully enrolled after four years, the

school will have approximately 380–400 students — 350 in the

PharmD program and an additional 30–50 PhD students.
