以for為前綴的單詞及意思

for-是英語(yǔ)古已有之的前綴，原意是forth。在古英語(yǔ)中，它

曾是相當(dāng)活躍的動(dòng)詞性詞綴。可是，現(xiàn)在由for-構(gòu)成的常見(jiàn)的派

生詞不多，for-的含義也不大明顯。大體上說(shuō)，for-只與英語(yǔ)單詞

結(jié)合，主要表示away的意思。下面舉幾個(gè)常用的詞例，請(qǐng)注意

for-在構(gòu)詞中的含義。

forbear ［for-＝away離；bear v. 忍受?“bear away from

sth. 忍受與某物相離”→］v. keep from doing; hold back避免；克

制 / I forbore telling her the truth becau I knew it would upt

her. 我克制自己沒(méi)將實(shí)情告訴她，我知道那會(huì)使她不安的。

?forbearance n. 忍耐，克制

forbid ［for-＝away離；bid v. 命令?“to command sb.

away from sth. 命令某人與某事相離”→］v. not allow; prohibit;

ban不許；禁止 / The teacher forbade us to leave our ats. 老師

不許我們離開(kāi)座位。

forget ［for-＝away離；get v. 變得?“to get away from the

mind離開(kāi)心中”→］v. let go out of the mind; fail to remember忘，

忘記 / He forgot the poem which he had memorized. 他忘了原先

記住的那首詩(shī)。

forgettable a. 易被忘記的；可以忘記的

forgive ［for-＝away離；give v. 給予?“to give away （a

punishment）放棄（懲罰）”→］ up the wish to punish; pardon

寬恕；原諒 / She forgave her brother for breaking her doll. 她原諒

弟弟弄壞了她的玩具娃娃。
