The next day my friends came together to pack away my clothes, my personal belo

ngings and what was left of my life. Not quite Gabrielle, not quite. How ironic. To

have something I tried so desperately to keep cret treated so causally. I'm so sor

ry, girls. I never wanted you to burden with this.

rielle，遠不只。多么諷刺，我拼命努力想要保守的秘密就這樣隨便的被她們發現了。對不

hat waits to be unveiled, the mysteries that long to be uncovered. But, people so r

arely stop to take a look. They just keep moving. It's a shame, really. There's so

much to e.

I was, what a waste. You e, to live in fear is not to live at all. I wish I could te

ll this to tho I left behind, but would it do any good? Probably not. I understand

now, there will always be tho who face their fears, and there will always be tho

who run away.

hat kind? An acquaintance? A stranger? Or how about a neighbor that lives a few f

eet away?

什么樣的人會寄這樣一張字條？是敵人？當然了！但是是什么樣的敵人？萍水相逢？還是陌

生人？或者就是一個街坊鄰居？

People by their very nature are always on the lookout for intruders, trying to preve

nt tho on the outside from getting in. But there will always be tho who force t

heir way into our lives, just as there will be tho we invite in. But the most troubl

ing of all will be the ones who stand on the outside looking in. The ones we never

truly get to know.

人類的天性就是提防那些入侵者，我們努力防止外人進入我們的生活。但就像我們有時會邀

請客人一樣，總會有人強行進入我們的生活。不過最令人頭痛的還是那些站在遠處監視著我

們的人，我們永遠不知道他們的真面目。

The arch for power begins when we are quite young. As children, we are taught

that the power of good triumphs over the power of evil. But as we get older, we r

ealize that nothing is ever that simple. Traces of evil always remain.

發現事情遠沒有那樣單純。邪惡的蹤跡總是存在。

Competition, it means different things to different people. But whether it's a friendly

rivalry, or a fight to the death. The end result is the same. There will be winners,

and there will be lors. Of cour the trick is to know which battles to fight. You

e, no victory comes without a price.

競爭意味著不同的事對不同的人。但不管是一場友好的競賽還是致命的搏斗，最終結局都是

一樣的--有勝利者，也有失敗者。當然，秘訣在于自己要知道該參加哪場斗爭。因為，任何

There is a widely read book that tells us everyone is a sinner. Of cour, not every

one feels guilt over the bad things they do. In contrast, there are tho who assu

me more than their share of the blame. There are others who soothe their conscie

nces with small acts of kindness. Or by telling themlves their sins were justified.

Finally, there are the ones who simply vow to do better next time, and pray for for

giveness. Sometimes, their prayers are answered.

有一本廣泛流傳的書（《圣經》）告訴我們每個人都是罪人。當然并不是所有人做完壞事之

后都會內疚，相對的，也有人承擔了過多的罪過。有些人會做些小小的善事來安撫他們的良

心；或者告訴自己他們是替天行道。最后，有些人僅僅發誓說下次會做得更好，并祈求原諒。

有時他們的祈禱得到了回應。

People are complicated creatures, on the one hand, able to perform great acts of c

harity; on the other, capable of the most underhanded forms of betrayal. It is a co

nstant battle that ranges within all of us, between the better angels of our nature,

and the temptation of our inner demons. And sometimes the only way to ward off

the darkness is to shine the light of compassion.

人是一種復雜的生物。一方面，能樂善好施；另一方面，也能背信棄義。我們的內心在善良

Trust is a fragile thing, once earned, it affords us tremendous freedom； but once t

rust is lost, it can be impossible to recover. Of cour the truth is, we never know

who we can trust. Tho we are clost to can betray us. And total strangers can

come to our rescue. In the end, most people decide to trust only themlves. It re

ally is the simplest way to keep from getting burned.
