Depression(抑郁癥)in young adult males, ages 18 or 19, is linked to a 20% greater risk of having a heart

attack in middle age, according to a new Swedish study.

The link can be partly explained by poorer stress resilience(抗壓能力)and lower physical fitness among

            teens with mental disorders.

Therearch included 238,013 men born between 1958 and 1962 who were given examinations in

adolescence(青春期)and were then followed into middle age(up to the age of 58 years). A total of 34,503 men

            were diagnod(診斷)with a mental disorder.

The study found thata mental disorder in young adulthond was linked to a higher risk of having heart attack

by middle age. Compared to men without a mental illness in young adulthood, the risk of heart attack was

20%higher among men with a diagnosis.

“We already knew that menwho were physically fit in adolescence em less likely to keep fitness in later

years if they have low stress resilience” said study author Dr. Bergh, “Our rearch has also shown that low stress

resilience is also connected with a greater tendency towards bad behavior, such as higher risks of smoking,

            drinking and other drug u.”

“Better fitness in adolescence is likely to help protect against later heart dia, particularly if people stay fit

as they age. Physical activities may also reduce some of the bad effects of stress. Tho in poor health could

benefit from additional support to encourage exerci and develop plans to deal with stress,” said Bergh.

            4. How does the author develop paragraph 3?

            A. By giving examples. B. By listing figures.

            C. By making a comparison. D. By drawing a conclusion.

            5. What are men with low stress resilience likely to do?

            A. Smoke more. B. Eat more. C. Sleep less. D. Do less exerci.

            6. What will Bergh agree with according to the last paragraph?

            A. Physical activitiesadd to stress. B. Stress may cau heart dia.

            C. Taking exerci is unnecessary. D. Staying fit is of great importance.

            7. In which ction of a newspaper may this text appear?

            A. Entertainment. B. Health. C. Education. D. Fashion.

British anthropologists (人類學家) Rusll Hill and Robert Barton of the University of Durham, after studying

the results of one-on-one boxing, tae kwon do, Greco-Roman wrestling and freestyle wrestling matches at the

Olympic Games, conclude that when two competitors are equally matched in fitness and skill, the athlete wearing

red is more likely to win.

Hill and Barton report that when one competitor is much better than the other, colour has no effect on the

result. However, when there is only a small difference between them, the effect of colour is enoughtipthe balance.

The anthropologists say that the number of times red wins is not simply by chance, but that the results are

            statistically significant.

Joanna Setchell, a primate (靈長目動物) rearcher at the University of Cambridge, has found similar results

in nature. She studies the large African monkeys known as mandrills. Mandrills have bright red nos that stand

out against their white faces. Setchell’s work shows that the powerful males — the ones who are more successful

with females — have a brighter red no than other males.

As well as the studies on primates by Setchell, another study shows the effect of red among birds. In an

experiment, scientists put red plastic rings on the legs of male zebra finches and this incread the birds’ success

with female zebra finches, Zebra finches already have bright red beaks (鳥喙), so this study suggests that, as with

Olympic athletes, an extra flash of red is significant. In fact, rearchers from theUniversityofGlasgowsay that the

birds’ brightly coloured beaks are an indicator of health. Jonathan Blount, a biologist, andhis colleagues think they

have found proof that bright red or orange beaks attract females becau they mean that the males are healthier.

Nothing in nature is simple, however, becau in species such as the blue footed booby, a completely different

colour ems to give the male birds the same advantage with females.

Meanwhile, what about tho athletes who win in their events while wearing red? Do their clothes give them

an unintentional advantage? Robert Barton accepts that “that is the implication” of their findings. Is it time for

sports authorities to consider new regulations on sports clothing?

            8. According to their rearch. Hill and Barton conclude that ________.

            A. the colour of clothing has an effect on most sport events

            B. red should be the choice of colour for clothing in sports

            C. red plays a role when competitors are equally capable

            D. athletes perform better when surrounded by bright red

            9. The underlined word “tip” in Paragraph 2 is clost in meaning to ________.

            A. achieve B. advance C. keep D. change

            10. The example of the blue footed booby proves that ________.

            A. male birds u different body parts to draw attention

            B. red is not the only colour to attract female birds

            C. blue gives female birds the same advantage

            D. blue can indicate how healthy a bird is

            11. What can be inferred from the passage?

            A. The colour red gives male animals the most advantage.

            B. Male zebra finches prefer to have red plastic rings on their legs.

            C. Rules on sports clothing are going to be changed.

            D. Athletes wearing red may have an advantage over their opponents.

            D

Afterwards, the youngmillionaire decided to build his own rockets.

Musk went to Southern California and started hiring people to help bring his dream to life. In a very short

time, and despite some failures, his company SpaceX launched Falcon 1, the first successful privately-built liquid

fuel rocket, into Earth's orbit in 2008.

As the first Falcon rocket began testing, development was already underway for the Falcon 9. This much

larger rocket, which us nine engines to lift heavy payloads(有效載荷)into orbit, is engineered to return to Earth,

ready to be reud for another flight.

For Musk, space is the final destination. To help people get there, his company Neuralink is developing

devices that will link people's brains with computers. A similar device has been developed at the University of

Utah. It consists of a chip(芯片)with 256 threads(線程)that is placed between a person's skin and brain. The

communicate with one another through computers.

Neuralink's chips will have about 1,000 threads. A robot developed by the company will place up to ten chips

under a person's skin. The chips will communicate without wires but with a tiny device that will be worn behind

the person's ear. That device, in turn, will communicate with computers. The primary market for the technology

will be for people that, becau of injuries or birth defects, cannot control their hands and arms. With Neuralink^

product, they'll be able to mentally command a computer to type messages for them or carry out other tasks.

            12. According to this article, what was the first Falcon 1 able to do?

            A. Launch big satellites. B. Reach distant moons.

            C. Move around our planet. D. Study the univer.

            13. What does the article explain about Neuralink's chips?

            A. How they'll be t up. B. What safety features they'll have.

            C. How much money they'll earn. D. Where they'll be produced.

            A. The Journal of Environmental Studies.

            B. Advances in Business and Technology.

            C. Digest of Fashion and Entertainment News,

In China, good family spirits, passing down from one generation to another, have a strong influence on their

believed and wished that her love and patience would one day change Amy.

One day a new family moved into Amy's apartment. They were very friendly people. They wanted to acquaint(使…熟悉)themlves with all the neighbors, so their little girl , Mary, was nt all around the neighborhood to

find friends. Soon, Mary carne to Amy's home.

It didn't take much time for Mary to understand Amy. However, she was not put off by Amy's behavior. She

knew that she needed to help Amy to change. She told Amy an idea that her teacher had once told the class in her

previous school. "Blow a balloon whenever you're angry or upt about something or someone.

At first Amy did not listen to Mary, but Hannah tried her best to tell her that it was fun and brought her a

            pack of balloons.

That day, Amy wanted to play a guessing game with her mother, but Hannah wanted to finish her chores(雜活)in the kitchen first. Amy got angry.
