今天我們接著來分享目的狀語從句。

一、定義

顧名思義，在句子中充當目的狀語的句子，就叫目的狀語從句，

主要用來補充說明主句中謂語動詞發生的目的。如：

He got up early so as to catch the first

morning bus.

?

He got up early so that he could

catch the first morning bus.

第一句中的短語so as to catch the first morning bus，是用來

補充說明got up early的目的狀語。

第二句中的句子he could catch the first morning bus，是用來

補充說明got up early的目的狀語從句。

二、連接詞

英語中常用來連接目的狀語從句的連接詞及其短語主要有：

so that

in order that

?

for fear that

?

lest

?

in ca

目的狀語從句的謂語中常含有may、might、can、could、

should、will、would等情態動詞。

下面我們就來看看上面的這些連接詞及其短語的用法。

（一）so that

so that表示“為了；以便”。如：

?

We turned on the light so that we

might e what it was. （我們把燈打開，以

便看看它是什么。）

?

They put a screen around his bed so

that the doctor could examine him. （他們

在他床的四周放上屏風，以便醫生給他檢查。）

【注意】

1、so that有時可以省略so，直接用that連接。如：

?

Bring it clor (so) that I may e it

better. （把它拿近點兒，讓我看看仔細。）

2、當主從句的主語一致時，so that引導的狀語從句可以改為短

語結構so as to do。如：

?

從句：We made a strategic

withdrawal, so that we could build up our

forces for a renewed attack. （我們作了一

次戰略性退卻，以便我們能積蓄力量再次進

攻。）

?

短語：We made a strategic

withdrawal, so as to build up our forces for

a renewed attack.

3、so that也可以表示結果，意思為“因此；所以”。此時，其

從句的謂語動詞中一般不使用情態動詞。如：

?

Everyone lent a hand, so that the

sowing was done in time. （每個人都幫了

忙，所以播種才得以及時完成。）

I took no notice of him, so that he

flew into a rage. （我沒注意到他，他因此勃

然大怒。）
