英語中，我們使用 “there is” or “there are” 談論我們看到的東西和存在的東西。

單數名詞和不可數名詞存在在這個句型中時，我們使用 “there is”；而 “there are” 用于可數名詞的復數時。比如下面的例句：

“There are five people in the office.” (可數名詞-復數)

“There’s a television in the living room.” (可數名詞-單數)

or “There’s some milk in the fridge.” (不可數名詞)

使用 “some”

使用可數名詞復數時，要么加上具體數量（五個人），如果我們不知道具體數量或者不愿意談論具體數量時，就加上“some”，

“There are five people in the office.” (指有準確的數字五個人)

“There are some people in the office.” (不知道多少或不提及具體數量)

“There’s some milk in the fridge,” (不可數名詞，當然無法知道具體的數量，因為不可數嘛！)

“There’s some money in my wallet.” (不知道多少)

請留意：不可數名詞的單數，使用a/an, the, 或者其他的限定或者代詞。請看下面的例句。

“There’s a woman in the shop.”

“There’s the woman who works in the hospital.”

“There’s my sister in the photo.”

否定形式以及 “any”的用法：

有兩種方式形成there句型的否定形式：

1. 動詞后面加上 not 或者 n’t，例如：

“There isn’t a freezer in the kitchen.” (可數名詞單數)

“There isn’t any money in my wallet.” (不可數名詞)

“There aren’t any students” in the classroom. (可數名詞復數)

如果是可數名詞單數，當使用否定句時，在 “isn’t”后面，用“any” ，而可數名詞復數時，在“aren’t”后面用“any” 。

特別注意: 不能在單數名詞時，使用 “any” 。

“There isn’t a single biscuit left in the packet.”

錯誤：(“There isn’t any single biscuit left in the packet.”)

2. 在 “there is” 或者 “there are”使用“No”。

“There is no freezer in the kitchen.” (可數名詞單數)

“There are no students in the classroom.” (可數名詞復數)

“There’s no coffee left.” (不可數名詞)

但更常用的是： “isn’t + a” 用于可數名詞單數； “isnt + any” 用于不可數名詞；“aren’t + any” 用于可數名詞復數。

1. 形成疑問句, 其實就是將主語-動詞變成動詞-主語。

There is a + 可數名詞單數，變成Is there a + 可數名詞單數?

“Is there a toilet on this train?”

2. 將 “some” 改成 疑問句“any” 。

There is some + 不可數名詞， 改成 Is there any + 不可數名詞?

“Is there any time to go shopping?”

There are some + 復數名詞 變成疑問句 Are there any +復數名詞?

“Are there any trains to London this morning?”

簡短的回答如下：

Yes, there is. / No there isn’t.

Yes there are. / No there aren’t.
