Mr. President,

Excellencies,

Ladies and Gentlemen,

It is an honor for me to address such a distinguished

audience on this historic occasion of the opening of the 68th

ssion of the United Nations General Asmbly.

As we stand at the beginning of a new era, marked by

momentous changes that are transforming our world in profound

ways, we must look to the future with optimism and a clear

vision of what we want to achieve. The theme of this year's

General Asmbly, "Crossing the Threshold: Advancing a

Sustainable Development Agenda," reminds us that we must work

together to overcome the challenges that face us, and to

build a more just and prosperous world for all.

We have made great strides in recent years towards

achieving the Millennium Development Goals, but we must do

much more to ensure that the benefits of development are

shared by all people, regardless of their background or

circumstances. Despite progress in reducing poverty,

inequality and unemployment continue to po major challenges

in many parts of the world. Climate change threatens to

undermine our efforts to build a sustainable future, while

conflict, violence and extremism continue to threaten peace

and stability in many regions.

To overcome the obstacles, we need a new vision of

development that is inclusive, participatory, and sustainable.

We need to embrace the transformative power of innovation,

science and technology, and to harness the creativity and

dynamism of young people around the world. We need to invest

in education and training, to build the skills and knowledge

that will empower individuals and communities, and to create

the conditions for sustainable economic growth.

Above all, we need to build a global alliance for

development, that brings together governments, civil society,

the private ctor, and international organizations, to work

together towards a shared vision of a better future for all.

This alliance must be bad on the principles of transparency,

accountability, and respect for human rights and dignity. It

must be guided by the values of solidarity, empathy, and

compassion, and it must be grounded in a deep understanding

of the interconnectedness of our world, and the need to

balance social, economic, and environmental objectives.

The United Nations has a vital role to play in this

endeavor, and I am committed to working cloly with Member

States, civil society, and other stakeholders to build a more

effective, responsive and efficient United Nations, that is

capable of delivering on the promi of our founding Charter.

We must recognize the strategic value of the United Nations

in the current context, where the need for multilateral

solutions is increasingly felt, and ensure that it remains

relevant, credible, and effective in responding to the

world's most pressing challenges.

In conclusion, let us embrace this historic opportunity

to bridge the gap between rich and poor, to promote equality,

justice and human rights, and to build a sustainable future

for all. Let us work together to create a world that is safe,

prosperous, and just, where all people can live in dignity

and freedom, and where our planet is protected and nurtured

for future generations. This is our collective responsibility,
