An 89-year-old man,Manfred Steiner, has reached a goal he spent 20 years working

toward and nearly a lifetime thinking about: earning his Ph. D. And now he is a

physicist.

Steiner values this degree becau it is what he always wanted and becau he

this was the most satisfactory point in my life, to finish it,” he said.

When he was young, Steiner wanted to become a physicist after reading about Albert

Einstein. But his mother and uncle persuaded him that studying medicine would be a

better choice. He earned his medical degree in 1955 and moved to the US soon after.

Steiner studied hematology(血液學) at Tufts University and biochemistry at the

Massachutts Institute of Technology. He became a full professor and led the

hematology department at Brown's medical school from 1985 to 1994. Steiner helped

establish a rearch program in hematology at the University of North Carolina. He

directed that program until he retired from medicine in 2000.

Steiner found medical rearch pleasing, but it was not quite the same as his

interest in physics. “It was something like a wish that was never fulfilled, that

always stuck in the back of my head,” he said. At age 70, he started taking

undergraduate class.

Physics professor Brad Marston was surprid when Steiner entered his quantum

Like Piper, we can always find solutions and come out stronger than ever before.

Somehow Pixar manages to fit all of the into a five-minute-long short film,

without using any spoken language and entirely by animation. Movements and personified

facial expressions are what drive this story in this film. Much like the nature

documentary, the continuous pulling of the shallow focus adds the n of realism.

The clean and clear animation allows for even the slightest micro-expressions to be

picked up by the audience. And the music is consistent with Piper's emotions, making

the audience feel the same way.

This film and lots of others by Pixar make us laugh and cry all the time. By fitting

a simple story with simple characters, we are led through challenges to a satisfying

conclusion for our characters. It's one of the best short films in a long time.

When it comes to team asmbly, people who are both trustworthy and competent are

the most sought after. However, tho who are friendly and trustworthy are more likely

to be lected than tho who are known for just their skill competence and personal

reputation, according to a new rearch from Binghamton University.

“We assume that people are lected due to their knowledge, skills and abilities.

However, this rearch suggests that people may often get picked becau team members

feel comfortable with them,” said Cynthia Maupin, assistant professor in Binghamton

University's School of Management. “People may be willing to sacrifice a bit in terms

of performance in order to have a really positive team experience.”

Maupin and her colleagues focud on a group of MBA students to conduct their study.

Students were randomly assigned to different teams to carry out class projects. Toward

the end of the mester, they were asked to form their own teams and evaluate why they

lected each member.

“To find out how the students signaled to others that they might be someone who

would be good to team up with in the future, we studied their u of either challenging

or supportive voice,” Maupin said.

the past two days. There and then, she decided to sacrifice part of our meals to the

from then on. Fortunately, the troubled situation did not last long, and the children

in our family returned to our three meals a day again.

As time went on, I noticed Mr. Lim grow cheerful. The number of customers at his

shop had incread steadily. Business at his shop took off like a rocket as bicycles

W: We are using their room becau the Head and Neck Department and the Accident

Department are both being modernized.

M: Everything here ems to make my headache wor. I really do need to e the

doctor.

W: Calm down. Getting annoyed won't help. A few more checks, and then he will e

you. I'm sure he'll find a way to make you feel better.

Last week, I had the pleasure of meeting a group of nature lovers who are fighting

climate change. The leader of the group, John, took a few minutes to sit down and talk

to me about their projects. John told me that he started the group with his wife Eliza.

A year later they had grown to 10 people and now, four years later, they have 50

volunteers. John said that they planted around 100 trees last week alone. Their group

focus on fixing the places where trees have been cut down by people. John stresd

that humans need the trees as much as the animals do and that people tend to forget

that trees aren't just materials to ll for profit. We also need them to breathe.

I was able to hear more about Eliza, who has actually stopped doing the planting with

them for the past year. Eliza still travels with them, but she's started a parate

group called “The Knowing Tree”. John described the group as one to inform children

about the importance of keeping our natural world in a good condition. It's truly

inspiring.
