dragon boat festival. Today, my mother took me out to watch

dragon boat races. I was very excited, becau this was my first

time to watch such race. When we arrived at Nanhu Park, there

were hundreds of people around the two sides of the river. We

found a place can e the match clearly hardly. The participate

sat on the boat look like dragon. When the signal to start t,

everyone on the boat tried their best to make the boat forward.

And the people who were watching also cheered them. The air

was very lively.

traditional festivals celebrated in China, which is on the fifth of

the fifth lunar month, also known as Duanwu Festival. It’s said

that it is to commemorate the death of a Chine patriotic poet,

Qu Yuan, who was snared by corrupt officials in ancient China

and finally committed suicide by drowning himlf in the Miluo

River to protest against them.

端午節(jié)是中國傳統(tǒng)節(jié)日中最流行的節(jié)日之一，它是在陰歷五月的

第五天。據說這是為了紀念一個中國的愛國詩人屈原的死，他被中國

The traditions and customs held on this festival differ from

place to place, but there are some common in them. First, the

most famous and great tradition is holding Dragon Boat races,

which are held by fishermen’s attempt to protect Qu Yuan’s

body against attacking by fishes and other animals in the river by

beating drums and row the dragon shaped boat. Nowadays

dragon boat races have been an annual popular sport activity

among people. In addition, making and eating Zongzi—a

dumpling made of glutinous rice and wrapped in bamboo or

reed leaves—is also a popular custom during this day. It can be

made by many kinds of stuffing. What’s more, hanging herbs

on the front door, drinking realgar wine and pasting up picture

of Zhongkui—a mythic guardian figure in ancient china—are also

popular during the festival, which are mean to protect people

from evil and dia.

這個傳統(tǒng)習俗不同的地方有不同的慶祝方式，但也有相同的方面。

首先，最出名的傳統(tǒng)就是舉行龍舟比賽，這是由漁民們舉行的，通過

marked by eating zong zi (glutinous ricewrapped to form a

pyramid using bamboo or reed leaves) and racing dragon

festival is best known for its dragon-boat races,

especially in the southern provinces where there are many rivers

and lakes. Thisregattacommemorates the death of Qu Yuan , an

honest minister who is said to have committed suicide by

drowning himlf in a river. The dragon-boat races symbolize the

many attempts to rescue and recover Qu's body. A typical dragon

boat ranges from 50-100 feet in length, with a beam of about 5.5

feet, accommodating two paddlers ated side by side.
